The best way to know for sure is to speak with the insurance company and give them the procedure code for tubal reversal surgery. From that information they should be able to tell you if tubal reversal surgery is a covered benefit. I wish you luck. Rhonda

I work with ins companies daily. Most of the time they will cover infertility treatments if you have NOT had a TL or your husand has had a vasectomy. If you have had any of those they will not cover anything. Even if you have had them reversed. They will cover the sterilization but never the reversal. This is true for every major ins comp that I have worked with. Although I have seen some on the posts that cover the reversal. If your company purchases a rider that includes the tr then you are allset but most do not. Hopes this helps. Michelle

He was 10.5 months old when he got it, and just celebrated his 17 year anniversary. He was very lucky - we saw several children pass away, and in a few cases it was due to hospital politics and insurance issues, so unfortunate. We just took a three week cross country trip to promote organ donation - visited 23 states, including Nebraska where we met several members of his donor (9 year old boy) family. They were awesome people. If you get a chance, take a look at the website: www.AmericanFieldTrip.com it has the whole story and trip with pictures. Needless to say I am a great organ donation advocate, and have spent many years fighting with insurance companies!

This is why I have a PPO, instead of an HMO. I want to be able to get any test I want, when I want, without someone else saying that I can't, or have to go thru a hundred other things first.

I don't let them make my decisions for me either, but they do try to tell us what we should and shouldnt do. I went through this with my son years ago when he needed a liver transplant, and knew several others with insurance companies telling them which doctors they should use, what tests were and were not necessary, where to have the transplant, etc. For many people who don't know they have the right to make their own choices, they just follow the decisions made by the insurance companies. Unfortunately, for those who cannot afford other options, they have to take the options provided by the insurance companies. So, its not always a matter of empowerment, but financial ability as well. That's why I say that insurance companies hold more control than what they should.

Sorry, but I have to say this, health insurance companies don't make medical decisions for us, they simply tell us what THEY will and wont pay for. I personally make my own medical decisions regardless of what my insurance does or doesn't pay for. I chose to have my tubes untied knowing that they wouldn't pay for it. If you let a third party who's only interest in you is financial make medical decisions for you, then you aren't going to get what you want out of the relationship. Be empowered and take control of your own health care. Steph
