From what I understand, the only way to know is from your previous c-section...ie: Looking at your expanded uterus, the scar tissue, the previous incision(s), etc.

As Tanya said it's individual. I have known women to be told no more after two, and I have a few friends who have had more than 5.

Best wishes and talk with your doc! I'm likely going to have #3. My first 2 were vag, 3rd child scheduled because of transverse position and 4th repeat...VBAC is not permitted locally here.

God Bless!

Kim,
Yes, I had my reversal in March 2007. We did not ttc right away, but got preggo within 3 months when we started trying. I had a very early m/c, but I know it worked and that I can get pregnant. My doc was fine with the number of c-sec and told me that he'd let me know when I should stop (meaning if the scar tissue gets to bad or my uterus looks too thin)

I've had three c-sections as well.

Some ladies have many c-sections with no issues, and some will have two or three and there may be concerns. The risk of rupture is individual. Did they mention it at your last c-section? If not, then you were probably just fine.

Good luck! [Smile]

I have one friend who has had 6 c-sections and her doc has cleared her for at least 2 more [Smile] She is not sure that is gonna happen (lol), but it shows that the whole "more than 2 is not safe" line is not standard.

Another friend of mine had 3 c-sec and then a TL. In deciding whether or not to have a TR, she spoke with her dr. who assured her it was completely safe for her to have a couple more. She is now scheduled to see Dr. B on 11-03!

Your safest bet is to consult an ob/gyn on your own. But, be informed and know that just saying right off the bat that 2 or 3 is the limit is not universally correct. My guess is there would have to be some other underlying issues that would make more c-sec unsafe for an ob/gyn to tell you "no more!".

Good Luck!

I to have had 3 c-sections. I had my first in 01 and it was because i had lost all my fluid and then my other 2 were just repeats. My second was in 03 and my last was 05 which i got my TL done during it. I am in the process of saving now to have my TR hopefully in the spring/summer09. I haven't talked to anyone about this yet so i can't give you and other info.

Good Luck,
Cristy

Jackie..so you have decided to do the reversal? The only thing that made me a little nervous about this is is that I have heard that it is not safe to have more then 2 c-sections. But mine went great.

Kim-
I had three c-sections and had my tubes tied with the third birth. My third pregnanacy was extrmely difficult and that lead to the tubal decision. I scheduled an appt with my ob/gyn and the specialist to inquire about my own health before deciding to do the reversal. They gave me the go-ahead, so we chose to reverse.
The reversal will be fine with the past c-sections, but if you're worried about the next pregnancy, talk to your doc. He'll tell you what the risks are, if there are any specific risks!
good luck with your decision.

Most of our tubal reversal patients have had c-sections and we have had many patients who have had 3 c-sections. There is an increased risk of scar tissue and a slightly more difficult tubal reversal- but most of our patients do great with reversal surgery.

If you are asking what are the risks of future pregnancy, then you should talk to your doctor (who knows your history) about this.

If you are asking how would you do with reversal surgery, then you should do great like most of our patients who have had several c-sections.

Can any other message board participants chime in?

I have had 3 c-sections and on my third one I decided that it would probably be best to have my tubes tied. 4 years later I'm not sure it was the best thing to do. Me and my husband have decided that we would like to have another one. Just wondering if it would be safe to do. With my first c-section it was an emergency due to high blood pressure but the next two were scheduled just due to the fact that I had a previous c-section. If someone could give me some advice on this I would appreciate it. Thanks

Kim
